Croatia's HEP Takes Offline Largest HPP Due to Technical Issues

Croatian state-owned energy utility HEP said it has taken offline its biggest hydro-power plant Zakucac due to a burst pipe which caused flooding in the engine room.

Despite having to take offline the 488 megawatt (MW) plant, located in coastal Omis, HEP has secured enough electricity by increasing the production of its other capacities, while also planning to purchase power to ensure regular supply to all consumers, it said in a press release late on Friday.

It noted it is taking all necessary measures to fix the problem.

HEP group owns and operates over 4,000 MW of installed generation capacity and 974 MW of heat production capacity, including 25 hydroelectric plants and eight thermal power plants fired by oil, natural gas or coal.
