Croatia Eyes Cooperation With China on Rail, Port Infrastructure Projects - PM Plenkovic –

Croatia is interested in launching joint infrastructure projects with China in the fields of railway transport and ports, prime ministerAndrej Plenkovic said.

"It is of the utmost importance that public procurement procedures are complied with and that the entire process is transparent. If that is so, there is, naturally, no reason why Chinese companies would not be the ones to win certain contracts,"Plenkovicsaid at a news conference in Sofia, Bulgaria, according to a press release issued by the Croatian government. For Croatia, it is important that jobs, especially those for subcontractors, are a source of employment and income for local companies as well, Plenkovic added.

Plenkovis attended the seventh summit of heads of government of China and Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC), also known as the 16+1 format, that took place in Sofia July 6-7. Croatia will host the next16+1 summit, to be held in 2019, the government said.

In January, Croatian motorway operator Hrvatske Ceste selected a Chinese consortium for the construction of the Peljesac bridge which will connect the peninsula of the same name with the rest of mainland Croatia over the Adriatic.
