China's CRRC Delivers Electric Locomotive to Serbian Power Utility EPS

Serbian state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) said on Wednesday that China Railway Rolling Stock Corp (CRRC) has delivered the first of two electric locomotives ordered last year under a 4.4 million euro ($4.7 million) contract.

The locomotive will be used in the transportation of coal from Kolubara mine to the Termoelektrane Nikola Tesla (TENT) power plant, EPS said in a statement.

"For EPS it is important that the Chinese locomotive can operate in adverse weather conditions, as last winter we saw how important it is to have reliable transportation of coal from the mine to the power plant," the managing director of the company, Milorad Grcic, said.

The contract with CRRC represents TENT's biggest investment in means of railway transport in the last 30 years, the power output managing director of EPS, Savo Bezmarevic, noted.

The contract for the delivery of the locomotives was signed in March 2016.

TENT comprises the Nikola Tesla A, Nikola Tesla B, Morava and Kolubara coal-fired power plants with a combined installed capacity of 3,286 MW.
