Bucharest Energy Producer Buys Windows Software, Never Uses It

Bucharest thermal energy producer Elcen has acquired Windows Vista operating systems and Microsoft Office licenses but has never used them, according to a report of the Prime Minister’s Control Body.

Elcen, which is a state-owned company, has paid about EUR 222,000 for the unused software, reports local Economica.net.

In 2009, Elcen bought 400 Microsoft Windows Vista licenses worth EUR 58,000, without VAT, as well as 400 licenses for the Microsoft Office suite, worth over EUR 141,000, without VAT. The company also acquired the right to upgrade the operating systems to the latest versions.

However, Elcen hasn’t installed or used the acquired licenses, according to the report. Elcen representatives said that the software wasn’t compatible with the hardware equipment the company owned.
