Boyko Borissov: South Stream Is History; Balkan Gas Hub Is on Agenda Now

The South Stream gas pipeline project is history and the Balkan gas hub is on the agenda now and we must outline it is a priority of the European Commission, together with the gas interconnectors with neighboring countries, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on Wednesday in the country’s National Assembly.

Premier Borissov again presented the idea about the construction of the gas hub near the coastal city of Varna, which would collect and distribute gas to Europe from various local and external sources. In Premier Borissov’s words, the gas pipeline on Bulgarian territory should be entirely Bulgarian possession and that the state would collect its
fees in full observance of the Third Energy Package of the EU. If Russia delivers gas to our borders Bulgaria will buy that gas and later sell it to Europe, Boyko Borissov specified.
