BOTAŞ is Expected to Reduce Power Plant’s Tariff

After the significant decline in the dollar exchange rate, the difference between the BOTAŞ’s current industrial tariff and the reference price in the market fell below 15%. However, there is still a subsidy of more than 50% in the residential tariff. When the market data is criticized after the explanation by the Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak who announced that there would be no price increase in natural gas and electricity till the end of the year, it is possible to conclude that there will be no change in residential tariff and the subsidy in the industrial tariff will be maintained for a while even if there is a need to increase the industrial tariff.

At this stage, the possible tariff change in November is likely to be experienced only in the composite tariff and electricity generation tariff. In the upcoming days, the energy market will determine their strategy for November by pricing out the possibility of BOTAŞ to reduce the prices in these tariff groups. On the other hand, BOTAŞ stopped the natural gas purchases from the private sector with 1,650 TL/kcsm as of 15 October. Although BOTAŞ justified the stop of natural gas purchases because of line pack, the fact that it has made balancing gas tenders of daily 12 mcm with A-1 code shows the stop of natural gas purchases is caused by the price level.
