The city of Thessaloniki, Greece’s northern capital, will once again host IENE’s “SEE Energy Dialogue” (SEEED), on 25&26 May, 2023. While the repercussions of the recent energy crisis are still being felt across Europe, the 14th South East Europe Energy Dialogue, located at the commercial and energy crossroads of SE Europe and the East Mediterranean, will cover a wide spectrum of subjects, ranging from hydrocarbons, electricity and energy transition to geopolitics and energy security. Energy experts, professionals, country officials etc. from West Balkans, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Israel, Cyprus and Greece, as well as from regional and international organizations and think tanks, are expected to take the floor of IENE’s major annual event.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year and the huge negative impact on European energy markets, gas supply disruptions and unprecedented high electricity and gas prices the issue of energy security has come into sharp focus. A special Ambassadors’ Forum, opening the proceedings of the Conference, as well as a session dedicated to Geopolitics and Energy Security in SE Europe, are among the highlights of this year’s SEEED.

The current volatile energy pricing environment, the global concern for the development of viable alternatives and the need to promote further carbon free solutions are also among the key policy issues of the 14th SEEED. As usual the “Energy Dialogue” will also cover the latest developments in the region’s evolving natural gas, electricity and RES markets and the ongoing energy partnerships with major suppliers. A special session, featuring Country Reports from all the countries of SE Europe, will provide invaluable regional background. The role of alternative gas supply routes, LNG shipments, cross border electricity and gas interconnections, electricity grid upgrades together with latest achievements in renewable technology and CCUS applications will also be examined.

Confirmed speakers at IENE’s 14th SEE Energy Dialogue so far include: Mr. John Roberts (Energy Security Specialist - Scotland, UK), Dr. Charles Ellinas (Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council – UK), Dr. Ioannis Kambouris (Chairman & CEO, Southeast Electricity Network Coordination Center – Greece), Mr. Tamer Emre (Director of Market Operations, Energy Exchange Istanbul – Turkey), Dr. Katja Yafimava (Senior Research Fellow, Oxford Institute for Energy Studies - UK), Mr. Slavtcho Neykov (Chairman of the Board of Managers, Energy Management Institute – Bulgaria), Mr. Milan Zdravkovic (DSO Executive Director, JP SRBIJAGAS, Novi Sad – Serbia), Dr. Amit Mor (CEO of Eco Energy Financial & Strategic Consulting, Senior Lecturer at Reichman University – Israel), Mr. Max Vauthier (Managing Director chez LNG Value Ltd Paris – France), Prof. Stavri Dhima (Energy Consultant, Oil and Gas Consultant, Risk Assessment Consultant, Climate Expert – Albania), Ms. Eugenia Gusilov (Director, ROEC – Romania), Mr. Milos Mladenovic (Managing Director, South East European Power Exchange / SEEPEX – Serbia), etc.

The 14th SE Europe Energy Dialogue will be held at The Met Hotel in Thessaloniki. The conference will start at approx. 5 pm on Thursday, May 25 to be followed by the official dinner and will end on Friday, May 26 at 18:00.
