Danish Vestas received its first order in 2017 from the U.S. to deliver wind turbines with 300 megawatts (MW) in capacity, the company announced late Tuesday.
Contrary to president-elect Trump's promise to revive conventional energy sources in the U.S., energy companies in the U.S. are still forging ahead with renewables and have ordered wind turbines from Vestas.
Since the beginning of his election campaign, Trump has voiced his opinions on energy, prioritizing fossil fuels over renewables, in direct contrast with President Barack Obama's actions.
Vestas did not disclose the customer's name at the customer's request.
The company will supply 150 turbines with 2 MW capacity.
The contract includes supply and commissioning of the wind turbines, as well as a multi-year service agreement.
Delivery of the wind turbines is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2017, with commissioning expected in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Vestas received a total of 9.26 gigawatts of wind turbine orders in 2016, compared to 8.94 gigawatts in 2015. Out of the 9.26 gigawatts, 3.05 gigawatts were received from the U.S.
