A gas plant run by Croatian oil and gas company INA in Syria has been blown up by militants of Islamic State group, Croatian media reported on Monday.
Croatia is yet to assess the situation and estimate the damage caused, Hina news agency quoted Croatia's foreign minister Davor Ivo Stier as saying.
"Preliminary reports confirm this information, but we will request a full confirmation and a damage report. After that, we will be able to further assess the situation", Stier noted.
According to the media, Islamic State terrorists blew up INA's gas plant in Syria, in Hayan. INA also has another gas project in Syria, in Aphamia block.
INA has been involved in exploration and production activities in Syria since 1998 based on signed Production Sharing Agreements (PSA). The complex political situation in Syria affected INA’s overall position in the Aphamia and Hayan projects and after force majeure was announced in February 2012, all activities regarding Hayan and Aphamia block were suspended until the force majeure circumstances cease to exist.
The Croatian government owns 44.84% of INA, Hungary's MOL controls 49.08%, while institutional and private investors hold a stake of 6.08%.
By 13:16 CET on Monday, INA's shares were trading 3.39% below Friday's closing price on the Zagreb Stock Exchange.
