EU-Arab Summit to Boost Economic, Security, Energy Cooperation

Representatives from the European Union and Arab world as well as business leaders are expected to discuss foreign policy, economic, security and energy issues and cooperation at an EU-Arab World Summit in Athens on November 9-10.

Speakers from the EU, include Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiades, Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, EU Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska and EU Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos.

From the Arab world, speakers include Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit

Palestinian Greek Friendship & Cooperation Association President Marwan Abdelhamid, Algerian Senator Hafida Benchehida and General Confederation of Algerian Enterprises (CGEA) President Saida Neghza.

This year’s summit agenda will cover, among other things, key issues relating to the geopolitical developments of the European Union and the Arab world, cooperation in the critical areas of energy, transport and shipping, education, investment in the Arab countries in EU countries and European investment in the Arab world.

On November 9, Arab representatives are expected to discuss cooperation in the energy sector, especially in the Mediterranean region and energy security with European Commission Director General for Energy Dominique Ristori, Cyprus’ Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, Greece’s Energy Minister George Stathakis and representatives from the energy industry, including Greece’s Public Gas Corporation DEPA Theodore Kitsakos.
