Special Event for the launch of “Innovation in Energy Programme”

Announcement

“Innovation in Energy” Conference to Highlight Research
and Novel Applications on the Road to Clean Energy Transition

The Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) is organizing a one day conference on May 8, 2025 at the Cotsen Hall in Athens, in order to examine the role of innovation in energy transition (here). The conference forms part of the Institute’s newly launched “Innovation in Energy” programme. This new initiative comes to augment IENE’s existing activities and programmes, and aspires to evolve as one of its core focus areas, aiming to explore a broad range of innovative solutions in the energy sector.

Focusing on activities and markets in SE Europe, the programme will select, identify, describe, and promote suitable innovative energy applications for wider adoption across the region. As energy transition gathers pace, so is the need to come forward with innovative ideas aimed towards (a) improving efficiency in the entire range of energy application*, (b) proposing new type of systems and solutions for the development and use of clean energy technologies, (c) mitigating climate change related challenges (e.g. CCUS, Geo engineering, geoscience etc.)

The one day conference on May 8 will examine several facets of innovative solutions in a wide range of energy applications, including power generation and cogeneration using natural gas and renewable energy sources (RES), energy efficiency methods suitable for buildings and industry, low carbon solutions for oil and gas exploration and production, carbon capture, storage and use (CCUS),and nuclear power generation with emphasis on Small Modular Reactors (SMR’s). Furthermore, the conference will examine the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in accelerating the search and identification of appropriate clean energy technologies for large scale applications in SE Europe and beyond.

These topics will be discussed and analyzed by a carefully selected group of highly qualified speakers representing key market players in Europe and further afield. More than 20 speakers have already confirmed their participation in this unique energy colloquium. The speakers and panelists will present a panorama of innovations currently shaping the energy landscape. As the IEA points out in the latest report entitled “The State of Energy Innovation”, the range of new energy technologies under development globally is broader and appears more promising than ever before. Yet the global energy innovation landscape is at a pivotal moment amid signs of slowing momentum in financing and shifting priorities (see IEA report).
