A ministerial panel discussion held during the first day of the “Energy & Development” conference, organized by the Institute in Athens on November 21/22, now in its 26th edition, proved to be one of the highlights of this well attended annual gathering. The energy ministers from 5 countries in the region had participated earlier in the day in the 1st Athens Ministerial Energy Dialogue following an invitation by Greece’s Environment & Energy Minister, Mr. Kostas Skrekas.
The 10th Cyprus Energy Symposium was successfully held at the Royal Hall, on November 17, 2022, in Nicosia, under the title “Cyprus: An Energy Hub in the Eastern Mediterranean”, bringing together senior government officials, energy professionals, executives of energy companies, officials, decision makers and academics from Cyprus, Greece, SE Europe but also the Middle East.

The Institute of Energy of Southeast Europe (IENE) will once again hold its annual conference the 26th National Conference “Energy & Development”, which will take place at the Divani Caravel Hotel, in Athens on November 22-23, 2022. The special theme of this year's conference is "Europe Αhead of Critical Energy Choices", where special emphasis will be given to the current energy energy crisis and Europe’s effort to decouple from Russian energy while trying to keep in focus its NetZero goals.
A major study by IENE is underway, aiming at assessing and underscoring the prospects of carbon capture, utilization & storage (CCUS) in Greece. This new project by the Institute has already attracted the interest of leading Greek energy companies, which actively participate in the study on a multi-client basis. IENE’s study on CCUS is conducted by the Institute’s inhouse research team in co-operation with external associates

On Friday, October 14 in the evening in a well-managed ceremony that took place at the Presidential Mansion of the Republic of Cyprus in Nicosia, the construction phase of the Eurasia Interconnector electricity cable, that will link Cyprus’s electricity system to those of Greece and Israel, was launched.
According to IENE’s latest Monthly Analysis, “the current dramatic increase in electricity prices throughout the EU has proved the inadequacy of the current market design of the electricity market, mainly based on the marginal cost of the most expensive source which now is natural gas. This market design, known as “Target Model”, was adopted to enhance the development of renewables when the latter were at an initial stage”.
The annual International Conference of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) was successfully held on 5-7, October, in Athens, Greece, in co-operation with the Hellenic Chapter of ASHRAE.
