IENE’s Scientific Project Co-ordinator, Mr. Nicholas Sofianos, visited Tirana, Albania, on February 10 and 11, 2016, in order to participate in the “HydroTechAlbania 2016” conference, organized by Green World Conferences.
The conference focused on the development of Albania’s significant hydropower potential and the required investment by companies and donors.
Following a meeting of IENE’s, Energy Efficiency Committee in Athens last Monday (8/2) it was decided to expand its remit by organizing a series of workshops and discussion groups throughout SE Europe on energy efficiency applications for buildings. High on the committee’s agenda is a review of EU Directives on Energy Efficiency (2002/91/EC) and on Energy Performance of Buildings (2010/31/EU), and how these are applied in the different countries of SE Europe
Upon the invitation of the organizers IENE’s Executive Director participated in the 9th European Gas Conference, held in Vienna last week (January 19-21) where he took part in the panel discussion which covered latest developments in the South Corridor

IENE’s long established event, the SE Europe Energy Dialogue is to be organized once again in Thessaloniki, in northern Greece, on 29/30 June 2016. This will be the 9thedition of the Energy Dialogue which was first launched in Thessaloniki in June 2007
Upon the invitation of EC’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), IENE’s Executive Director Mr. Costis Stambolis participated in a JRC/Energy Community joint workshop on December 15, which took place at the offices of the EC Secretariat in Vienna
The 4th Cyprus Energy Symposium, organized once again by the Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE - www.iene.eu) and Financial Media Way (www.fmw.cy), took place in Nicosia, on December 7-8, 2015. The Symposium has been established over the past years as a major event in Cyprus for energy policy and business and concerns all aspects of the energy sector but also covers energy market developments in the broader East Mediterranean region
Following termination of IENE’s co-operation with See News, the Sofia based business information organisation, through which it provided its members with a daily news feed, the Institute went ahead with plans for the preparation of a corresponding weekly newsletter. This was launched two weeks ago and already two issues (November 23 and November 30) have been published and sent to IENE members and associates. The Energy Weekly Newsletter is sent to all members and associates every Monday
Following a visit to Cyprus earlier this week by IENE’s Executive Director Mr. Costis Stambolis details were finalized with the local organizer, Mr. Iosif Iosif, Managing Director of FMW Financial Media Way for the 4th Cyprus Energy Symposium which is to be held on December 7-8 at the Hilton Park Hotel in Nicosia
More than 280 registered delegates participated in the annual “Energy and Development 2015” conference organized by IENE in Athens last week (November 11 and 12). Apart from its high participation, the conference proved a huge success as it attracted several high level speakers from Greece and abroad, from both government and industry but also from academia

While on a visit to Tehran between October 4 and 8, in order to meet senior executives from NIOC and other key energy companies he participated in a special workshop organised by Dr. Abbas Maleki, Associate Professor of Energy Policy at the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran
A number of highly distinguished international energy experts will participate in this year’s annual IENE conference which will be held in Athens on November 11 and 12. The conference, known as “Energy & Development”, this year celebrates 20 years of continuous organisation headed by Costis Stambolis, who started this major regional event in June 1996 (before IENE was founded, in 2003)
In the context of European Commission’s public consultation on the European Union’s strategy, now under formulation, on LNG and gas storage, the Institute of Energy for SE Europe put forward a number of ideas and proposals. These focused on the need to expand underground gas storage in SE European countries and also underlined the role of LNG both from a supply and storage viewpoint.
