In a specially convened meeting held at the International Energy Agency (IEA),IENE' Executive Director Mr.Costis Stambolis and the Institute' Head of Research Mr. Nicholas Sofianos presented the findings of the just published "SEE Energy Outlook", the Institute's major study on the energy situation in SE Europe. The meeting took place at IEA's headquarters in Paris on May 15 and was attended by country representatives accredited to the OECD and senior IEA energy experts

The critical and urgent problems facing the Greek energy system which, last January, nearly lead to a black-out, were highlighted at IENE’s special evening event on March 15, entitled “The Safety of Greece’s Energy System”. The meeting attracted maximum attention with more than 75 IENE members attending this groundbreaking event

This year’s European Gas Conference organized as usual in Vienna attracted strong presence from IENE partners and Associate Members. More specifically IENE’s executive director Costis Stambolis and IENE partner and founding member Spyros Paleoyiannis, in his new capacity as Managing Director of MedGas (following his leave from DEPA last year where he was CEO) actively participated in the various open discussions and roundtables
IENE has just announced its planning of events for this year which, as usual, covers a wide spectrum of energy forms and applications. In addition to the events which appear in the events section of this site, IENE is likely to organize on an ad hoc basis special meetings, symposia and workshops as the need arises and in accordance with proposals formulated by its various scientific and technical committees
In an effort to upgrade and revamp IENE’s basic information service, the ‘SEE Energy Brief’, a new version of the ‘Market Insight’ report was released on January 10. The revised ‘Market Insight’ report will from now be published on a monthly basis but in two different versions which will alternate
The last days of the year are proving very challenging for IENE as it is advancing its plans for organizing a series of conferences, roadshows and expert meetings during 2017 in various capitals and major cities of SE Europe. In addition the scientific staff of the Institute is busy putting together a medium term comprehensive plan for research projects and studies on a variety of topics related to energy in different countries of the region
