The Institute has just posted its revised events programme of events for this year and already interest is growing fast among members and associates who wish to be informed in detail. The first event of the year is now scheduled for next Monday, January 14, when IENE will celebrate the start of the start of the new year with the traditional ceremony of the breaking of the new year cake at a gathering of partners, associates and members in a down town hotel in Athens. The event will take place between 18:30 and 20:30 and will be held at the Electra Palace Hotel in Nikodimou Str.
The Institute has today released its latest study which deals with the current status and prospects for gas supply in SE Europe and the important role of LNG. The study, which was completed earlier this year, and has since undergone an internal review, covers primarily the gas demand and supply conditions which together with critical gas storage issues are examined on a global and regional basis.
The 6th Cyprus Energy Symposium, organized once again by the Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) and Nicosia based, FMW- Financial Media Way took place at the Hilton Park Hotel in Nicosia, on December 4, 2018.

IENE’s latest workshop which was organized in Athens at the end of last month (October 30-31) helped reveal the true extent of SE Europe’s not insignificant oil and gas resources. These are to be found in four distinct geographical zones, which inadvertently correspond to geological ones, and arebroadlylocatedin the Adriatic, which extends south tothe Ionian, the Black Sea, Turkey’s Anatolian Basin and the East Mediterranean.
With more 250 participants and 42 speakers and panelists IENE’s annual national energy conference, “Energy & Development 2018” which was held in Athens last week (November 22/23), provided once again a most useful platform for reviewing key issues of the current energy agenda but also in addressing the future challenges of the energy sector.
Strong interest continued unabated over the last few days from speakers, delegates and conference sponsors and supporters participating at IENE’s annual event this week (November 22 & 23). The long established ‘Energy & Development’ conference, now in its 23rd year, is being held at the Eugenides Foundation conference centre in Faliro, a 10’ minute ride from central Athens.
Upon the invitation of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) IENE’s Executive Director Mr. Costis Stambolis participated and spoke at the “Athena 18” Security and Crisis Management Conference which took place at the Dekelia Air Base on November 13-15.
The Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) is organizing the 23rd annual energy conference which will take place in Athens on November 22-23, 2018 and will be held at the Eugenides Foundation, in Faliron, Athens. The conference, has been established over the past years as a major event in Greece for energy policy and business.

The International Energy Agency held its third annual global conference on energy efficiency in Paris last week (October 31), bringing together more than 200 energy professionals from over 60 countries, to focus on the critical role that efficiency plays in the global energy transition, as well as opportunities that can be addressed
IENE participated in the high-level “6th International Conference on Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Energy Efficiency”, which was held on November 1 and 2, in the University of Cyprus in Nicosia
IENE’s research Associate, Alexandros Perellis, participated in the Connected Cars Conference 2018, which was held in Athens on the October24 and was organized by Boussias Conferences. More specifically, Mr. Perellis, following the completion of IENE’s major study on the “Prospects for the Electric Vehicle Market in Greece, and SEE and Potential business opportunities”, made a presentation on the challenges that electric mobility is facing in the region of South East Europe
Following two successful international workshops which IENE organised in 2012 and 2013 on Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production in the East Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea, the Institute is convening a 3rd Upstream workshop for SEE to be held next week in Athens
IENE participated in a public consultation meeting which organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Belgrade on Friday, October 19
In light of increased interest and energy trading activity in SE Europe, IENE has launched a weekly newsletter on SEE’s vibrant electricity markets. SEE Electricity Market Analysis is IENE’s latest newsletter, the first issue of which appeared on October 2nd
On September 18-22, IENE’s researcher Mr. Alexandros Perellis visited the island of Kastellorizo, in the Dodecanese island group, off Rhodes, as part of the Institute’s study project concerning the island’s energy self-sufficiency. This study is now in progress, having commenced at the end of last year and scheduled for completion by December 2018
IENE has just published a new Working Paper, No 24, on the Prospects for the Electric Vehicle Market and Business opportunities with special reference to SE Europe and Greece. The paper summarizes the findings of a corresponding major study by IENE on the region’s Electric Vehicle Market.
IENE participated in the high-level “19thInternational Energy Arena” conference, which was held on September 21, in Istanbul. The theme of this year’s conferencewas “Energy: Geopolitics, Trends and Challenges”, focusing on important topics, including energy investments and financing issues, geopolitical developments, highlighting energy security and bilateral relations as well as recent developments in Eastern Mediterranean, Balkans and Turkey in terms of gasification of Europe
The BP Energy Outlook and Statistical Review of World Energy 2018 were presented in Athens in a special event which was organized by the British Embassy in Greece and British Petroleum (BP) on Wednesday 19 September 2018
