The 22nd World LNG Summit & Awards will be held in Athens, Greece for the first time on 29 November – 2 December 2022. The Summit is endorsed by the Ministry of Environment & Energy, Greece and hosted by DESFA. The 22nd World LNG Summit & Awards will bring together global LNG leaders from across the value chain to define the critical role of LNG and gas in both energy security and the ongoing drive for decarbonisation.
The great expectations but also the challenges posed by energy storage were highlighted by the IENE one-day workshop entitled "Electricity Storage and Grid Management for Maximum RES Penetration" held in a central hotel in Athens on September 28.

Following a prolonged cyber-attack on the evening of Sunday, August 28, the main site of the Institute, www.iene.eu, went down. The malicious attack occurred on the site's server, which is hosted in the “Interworks” Cloud Data Center which collaborates with Microsoft in Thessaloniki. Consequently, all connections to the network were severed, and this resulted in the Institute’s website not being accessible or updated for more than 48 hours
Last December during IENE’s annual conference, the 25th “Energy & Development 2021” conference the Institute awarded a number of life achievement prizes, known as ‘Prometheus’ awards, to a select number of individuals from Greece who have excelled themselves in their particular area of work.
In its latest News Analysis, the Institute looks into the impact of the war in Ukraine in terms of the economy and politics. This is an attempt to address holistically the issue of sanctions imposed by the EU and USA on Russia, as a result of it invasion in Ukraine, and their backfiring on to the European economy and its political order.

In its latest News Analysis, which is accessible, IENE focuses on the issue of gas crisis and the recession risk it creates for the economy of Eurozone, which has been hit by high inflation. The Analysis also looks further afield and examines IMF’s latest pessimistic outlook for the global economy.
In its latest Monthly Analysis of June 2022, which is freely accessible, IENE raises the issue of whether Europe’s electricity system can deliver more competitive prices. In an about-turn, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, acknowledged that the EU’s electricity market “does not work anymore” and needs to be adapted to the “new realities of dominant renewables”.

Following an invitation by the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the IEA, IENE participated on July 14 in IEA’s “In Depth Energy Policy Review of Greece” which is taking place all of this week in Athens. An eight person strong team of IEA experts and analysts have positioned themselves in a specially arranged room on the Ministry’s 6th floor and have been receiving representatives from most public and private energy companies and organizations in Greece.
IENE took part in the Public Consultation of the Ministry of Environment and Energy concerning the legal framework for the licensing of offshore wind farms in Greece.
The 10th Conference entitled "Energy Efficiency in Manufacturing" was held on Tuesday, June 29, 2022, in the Peristyle of the Eugenides Foundation, organized by the Boussias Communications company, with the active the participation of IENE, represented by its Secretary General and Chairman of the Energy Efficiency Committee, Mr. Costas Theofylaktos.
