Number of power plants in Turkey rose to 1,202 at the end of Maythis year, Turkey's state-owned electricity transmission company TEIAS said Wednesday.
The total number of power plants in Turkey was1,126 at the end of 2014 and 1,175 at the end of April, according to a report by TEIAS.
Installed capacity in Turkey rose to 71,429.7 megawatts (MW) from 69,519.9 MW since the beginning of this year, while this number was 70,912.3 MW at the end of April.
According to TEIAS, Turkey's monthly electricity production rose 3.7 percent to reach 20,896.1 gigawatthours (GWh) in May, from 20,133.6 GWh the same month a year ago.
Cumulative electricity production rose 3.1 percent between January and May this year to reach 104,380.2 GWh.
In May, Turkey imported 428,510 GWh of electricity, while exporting 281,012 GWh. These figures were 506,525 GWh and 181,650 GWh for April respectively.
At the end of May, Turkey had 17 power plants that run onfuel-oil,asphaltite,naphta and diesel, 23 power plants that work withhard coal and lignite, nine power plants that run on import coal, and 237 power plants that work with natural gas and liquefied natural gas, LNG.
While there are 60 power plants that work with renewed waste, waste heat andpyrolytic oil, 9 power plants run onhard and liquid multifuels, 40 power plants run on liquid and natural gasmultifuels.
In addition, there are15 plants run with geothermal energy, 84 dams, 444 hydraulic rivers, 99 wind power and 165 solar power facilities.
