National Bank of Greece Leads the Wave of New IENE Corporate Members

The National Bank of Greece (NBG), Greece’s leading banking group, has joined IENE as its latest corporate member accrediting 25 of its senior executives to the institute. With branches and operations in more than 10 countries, NBG has strong interests in SE European markets providing finance for a great number of energy-related projects ranging from refineries and electricity grids to wind farms

The National Bank of Greece (NBG), Greece’s leading banking group, has joined IENE as its latest corporate member accrediting 25 of its senior executives to the institute. With branches and operations in more than 10 countries, NBG has strong interests in SE European markets providing finance for a great number of energy-related projects ranging from refineries and electricity grids to wind farms.

The National Bank (www.nbg.gr) was established in 1841 and became the first bank of the modern Greek state, with a decisive contribution to the financial life during these 170 years of history. Nowadays, the National Bank leads one ofthe largest and strongest financial groups in Greece, with a strong presence in Southeast Europe and Eastern Mediterranean.

Latest IENE corporate members also include Elin Biofuels and Sunlight Recycling, active in biofuels production and industrial recycling respectively.

"Elin Biofuels S.A.” (ww.elin.gr) was incorporated on 1 August 2005 and its line of business is the production and marketing of biofuels. 37% of the shares of Elin Biofuels, which is active in the production of biofuels from a biodiesel plant in Volos, is owned by ELINOIL. The latter is a purely Greek company which has been effectively, consistently and responsibly meeting the energy requirements of thousands of Greeks since 1954.

The scope of Elin Biofuels is, among others, to supply, collect and process raw materials for biofuel production, set up and operate industrial facilities for biofuel production and carry out wholesale and retail sales activities for all types of commodities and products in general and in particular liquid fuels, lubricants, liquid gases, solid fuels, biofuels and all sorts of related products.

It also imports and exports liquid fuels, lubricants, liquid gases, solid fuels, biofuels and all sorts of related products, represents domestic or foreign businesses and, in general, its purpose is to provide services and in particular services related to the aforementioned. Elin Biofuels aims at designing and constructing technical works and in particular liquid fuel stations, car stations, marinas, oil product and solid fuel facilities, biofuel facilities or plants and other energy sources, etc.

Sunlight Recycling is the Lead-acid Battery Recycling Branch of Systems Sunlight S.A.

Sunlight Recycling owns a new recycling plant, built in a plot area of 4.2 hectare in the Industrial Area of Komotini (Prefecture of Rodopi), which will be able to recycle 30,000 tons of spent batteries per year, creating multiple financial and environmental benefits at local and national level.

Sunlight Recycling presents the first holistic approach to the recycling of lead-acid batteries in Greece, as it covers the full recycling cycle. That is, the collection and accumulation of spent batteries, their recycling based on international quality standards, and the use of recycled materials for the production of new batteries in Greece by Systems Sunlight.
